Outfit & Interview: Floral Prints & Common Sense

The lovely miss Rachel of Floral Prints and Common Sense is here to do an outfit & interview! She is seriously thee cutest so you have to pop over to her blog. She also has a pretty amazing Etsy shop, where you can see her make the goofiest faces and buy the sweetest clothes!

1.Hi! I want to start off by saying that I love your blog and your shop. What made you decide to start blogging?
Thank you so much! I decided to start blogging a year ago after seeing some really cute girls and their blogs via tumblr. I wanted to showcase my outfits and DIY crafts, and it seemed like the perfect community in which to do so!

2. Your shop is filled with cute things, and the way you model them is so fun and silly. Who takes your photos? Is this experience as fun and silly as it appears?
Most of my photos are taken by me with a tripod, but sometimes I grab my boyfriend and bark some orders at him from in front of the camera! Sometimes it is really funny (I end up laughing a lot while making the faces and there are a lot of outtakes that look even sillier than the ones I use), but this time of year it’s been rushed because it’s just so cold!

Coat: Wet Seal
Shirt: Goodwill
Pinafore, Floral crown: handmade
Shoes: Target+DIY
Socks: Old Navy

3. So you major is illustration, are there any projects in the future? Do you plan on selling prints and more paintings? Commission work?
I currently sell a few prints in my shop, and I do commissioned portraits, buttons, and headers for $15-$20, but something I’m really really really excited for is my senior thesis that I’ll be starting next year! I plan on doing a line of my own clothing, decked out with hand illustrated fabrics! I am so pumped, if it doesn't get approved I’ll probably be crushed.

4. You always have the cutest outfits! Where is your favorite place to shop? (If it is a thrift store, then which is your favorite and why)
I love Modcloth, of course, but the place I spend most of my time is the Goodwill in my home-town! On weekends they have a dollar rack, and it’s really hard to resist something when it’s that cheap! Plus the thrill of the hunt is unbeatable, it makes me feel like an adventurer or something.

5. What is your favorite color combination and how does it make you feel? (I feel like oatmeal, brown, and orange colored things make me feel more cozy.)
Ooh that does sound like a cozy color combo! I really like neutrals because they make me feel elegant, but the colors I wear most are red and blue. Blue makes me feel pretty and sweet, like little bow peep or something haha, and red makes me feel powerful and motivated. Like if I don’t know what I’m doing, at least I’ll look like I do!

6. What is your most favorite clothing piece you own?
Eeep, I love so many! Maybe this one dress I made, that has cloud fabric for the top and waves drawn on the skirt. I’m really proud of it, and I think it’s really pretty!

7. You hand-make some of your own dresses, how long does it take you? Are you a pro by now? Will you be selling any of your designs?

Honestly, when I make a dress, I basically do it overnight. I get into this motivated design frenzy and just sew like a madwoman into the wee hours. I’m hardly a pro seamstress, though. I get a little (a lot) impatient with hemlines and am basically self-taught. I do plan on selling some simpler, hand-stamped designs, if not this summer, then probably next year!

8. I noticed that you are pretty much always wearing lipstick. What is your absolute favorite brand and color? (I am always on the hunt for a good lipstick)
I loooove lipstick. My first priority is long wear, and I’ve found that Revlon stays really well. I love orangey reds, and the Ultimate Suede and Colorstay are both really great. I have started liking the Sephora brand of liquid stains recently, too. They smell like icing.

9. What is your favorite blog and why?
That’s a tough one because I love so many! I really love reading Delightfully Tacky, Lost in the Haze, and The Pineneedle Collective! I really just love quirky personal style and cool DIYs.

10. What are a couple goals you have for this year?
This year I really want to just get better at things! I want to make some more dresses, and get my Etsy shop off the ground, and improve my illustration.

Thanks so much for doing this post, Rachel! I love your outfit so much! You look like a doll. Also, you guys can check out the DIY for her pretty shoes!

How fun! Greta interview, I felt like I got to know more about Rachel. That is so cool, Rachel, about the senior thesis; hope it gets approved. Also, I didn't realize you sewed so much.

A pinafore look seems very you somehow. This one is a color that reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and whimsy.
